We love Halloween in our house…much to my husband’s dismay! We go all out and have thrown some pretty epic camp out Halloween parties. Check out our first Halloween with Riley below, there will be other posts through the ages as we get go along!
Riley’s first Halloween was an interesting one. He decided at 7 months old that it was time to venture out on his own. I had come home from work to find our little wiggle butt….not home. So I searched high and low, the back yard, the shed, under the shed, the basement, the closets, the bedrooms, the cupboards. I searched everywhere. Then I made the call I was dreading – my parents. Called my parents and told them our dear Riley had flown the coop and was no where to be found! We all panicked.
I set the candy bowl at the front door, tears streaming down my face, terrified my boy would never be found or would be nabbed up by someone else or….worse. Then I get this phone call from my step-mother. Our little wiggle-butt, the smartie that he is, had been walking down the sidewalk on his way to the McDonald’s up the street. He never left the sidewalk, he said hello to each person he met, and then he saw the truck. On dear did he run! He knew he was in trouble and he turned his butt around and started making his way back home. My parents hopped out, picked up the rascal and drove him home to me where he promptly shared his story….loudly!
Well, now that the crisis was averted I decided it was time to get ready for some trick or treating fun (yes, at 18 I was still one of those trick or treaters coming to your door). I went downstairs and put on the costume I had made for myself, did up my hair and make up, then started on Riley. He was so easy going with the little shirt and vest I had made for him! But then came the hat and wig…that took a little more convincing. Once we were dolled up we headed out to the neighbours for our first haunt and oh my goodness was Riley the biggest hit of the night! The neighbour felt so bad that he didn’t have any puppy treats that he brought down a dinner plate of steak, carrots, and potatoes! Riley feasted like a king this Halloween, and he really didn’t mind the hat/wig combo after that. Our adventures in dress up continued uneventfully until 2012 when we went on our very first Halloween Camp Out!
