We took a wander up into Boston Bar a while back with a very dear friend and her furry companion. We went up to Blue Lake Resort and rented one of their small cabins. It was fantastic! The cabin itself wasn’t much but it served the function it needed to and was quite cozy.

We brought out own bedding and rolled out our sleeping bags across the bed. We loaded our cooler items into the provided fridge inside and took a quick peak at the rest: a hot plate for cooking, small wood stove for heat, a single sink with full running water, and kitchen table and chairs. It served for two people to sleep in and have a game of cards if the weather turned on us. We were beyond happy not to have to tent it!
Outside we had a picnic table and fire pit so we had options for placing our bar-b-que and cooking preferences. We also brought along a solar speaker for some tunes sitting round that fire pit at night!

The resort offers a myriad of activities to do for families, including a full playground and showers. For us, we wanted to go hiking and explore the lake with our dogs! So we started with the Lookout trail. This was a well manicured trail that lead up the mountain at an easy walk. While there is some steeper incline at the very top, most of the trail was a very gradual rise. When you finally do reach the lookout (about 30 minutes) you look over the whole resort and valley. It is just beautiful, even Riley thought so!

We stopped at the top long enough to enjoy the views, take a few photos, and for Riley to decide my lap was the place to be when I sat on the rock!
He was quite happy being out in the woods again. I did let him roam a bit off leash at the peak as we were the only ones up there.

When we hiked down we decided to detour to the meadow behind the cabins before returning for the day. The meadow was filled with daisies! Like completely filled! Apparently they have horses that you can rent for trail rides in the area (or they did when we were there a few years ago). We went off season so didn’t get to see the horses but found some other little wildlife to visit!

We frolicked a bit in the meadow with the dogs here as we made our way to the opposite side of the field where we found a low level babbling brook to play in for a while. It was really nice to have a refreshing sip of water at the end of our trekking – yes filtered of course! Though this stream was so clear and quick I probably would have drank right out of it.

After a brief run through the brook we headed back through the meadow to our cabin, then over to the showers! Coin operated showers, so be sure to bring change with you!
Riley was ready for a nap while we showered so he found a spot near the playground under a bush to doze a moment.
The next day we explored the lake and beach. That’s right, Blue Lake Resort has an actual BEACH! You can rent peddle-boats from the main office and I believe they had canoes when we were there. The lake is electric motor or row boat only so don’t bring a gas motor with you! We rented the peddle boat and took Riley out on the water for an hour. My goodness, we got stuck under some brush along the shore line and had to back up, Riley freaked right out. This is a dog who does not like to back up – even in the car. He Ki-yi’s and paces and freaks! So this particular day…he freaked out so much he fell overboard. Enter drowned rat looking dog being lifted back onto the boat. He plunked himself down in on of the back seats and faced away from me with his ears down for the rest of the boat ride. He was SO not impressed!
We look forward to going back for another visit to this beautiful resort! It is rustic so please don’t expect a spa, but it is just beautiful for someone who wants the comforts of home and an easy woodsy experience.
