Riley’s First Christmas Adventure: Candy Cane Lane

Riley’s first thanksgiving ended up with him devouring the turkey on the counter…he ate the breast as soon as it was out of the oven before noticed! So he’s a little turkey.

His first Christmas was one filled with fun, toys, love, and laughter and he brought it all with him! He still knows when Christmas is approaching. December 1st, Riley ran into our den and straight to the Christmas Tree. He sat at the base of that box and barked. And barked. And barked. Time to put up the tree according to Riley!

For his first Christmas Adventure, I dressed the little bugger into his winter sweater and we went to Candy Cane Lane! We drove around a few blocks to find parking then walked our way around the 6 blocks of Christmas light displays along 63B ave and 190th Street in Surrey. We saw reindeer, snowmen, candy canes, elves and a few Santa’s along our route!

The lights were just beautiful and the night was so clear and crisp, it was a welcome to winter adventure!

We went to a few light displays and got ourselves a hot chocolate at one house, a hot apple cider at another, and a few puppy cookies along our way.

These houses go all out for Christmas displays! There was even Santa walking down the way handing out candy canes to the little ones.

Riley was about 9months old at the time and full of energy but such a gentleman. He loved all the little kids that would run over to say hello and give hugs and kisses. He was always the center of attention…the lights might have started to get jealous!

We toured the Lane for a good 2 hours before heading home. Along the way I had to stop for a McNugget for the bugger he was so good.

Christmas lights are beautiful to visit. They kick off some of that festive spirit of the Holiday Season with just their presence. I get as much holiday joy from looking at a few light up reindeer in the yard as I do from sipping coffee Christmas morning beside a glowing decorated tree surrounded by family. Just wait till I share how Riley’s first Christmas morning happened! He was so excited!

We went back to Candy Cane Lane a few years later but it wasn’t quite as lit up as 2007 was. It has since come back to some very elaborate displays and we can’t wait to go again this year! Its going to be a revisiting adventure but one that will be a new contract 14 years after our first visit. Maybe Santa will visit the Lane again this year!

Happy Tails!
