Silver Stardust: New Years Eve 2023

Our annual trip (a year late for this I know!) came and went in a hurry! We made it up to Silver Star and rung in the new year with the girl, some fire works, and the mountain magic.

We spent the week leading to New Years enjoying some down time and hitting the snowshoeing trails with little miss Skye. She sported her spiffy new backpack through the forest and got lots of compliments! We love the teal against her purple parka. Such striking colours together.

After a few days trekking through the woods and doing a little shopping, New Years was upon us! Now we haven’t been at Silver Star for New Year’s Eve in about 3 or 4 years. And Silver Star you did not disappoint one bit.

We headed into the village to take in the local artisan market. Skye was a little unsure what to think of all the people – there was a packed village up here!

Once we checked out the market we got some special photos under the tree infringe of Bugaboos. They were quite precious in the snow with all the Christmas balls and lights. So pretty!

Photoshoot and market done, it was time to party in the beer garden – that’s right, Silver Star put on a beer garden with DJ for new years! Web had a couple drinks and danced a bit, met some new people who saw us on the snowshoeing trails earlier in the week. Then headed over to the bunny hill behind The Den to watch the torchlight parade and fireworks.

Now, Skye has never experienced fireworks before. She has never been around them. And this little miss is afraid of everything so we had no idea how this would play out. We brought little girl’s sling with us but we’re hoping she would fit inside my jacket to be snug as a big. And we were in luck because she almost fully fit inside my jacket!

The fireworks were startling for Skye. There is no doubt about that. The loud thundering was not something she was fond of. But the pretty lights. She was definitely curious about the pretty lights! While I would not say she was calm, she wasn’t petrified either. She was anxious and scared but so curious. She didn’t try to run or escape. Once she was snuggled into our coats she was content to watch the pretty light show with us. Just don’t let go! Her little claws were not letting her go anywhere.

Afterwards we walked back up to the house and Miss Skye lead the way. It’s amazing to see how far this little miss has come in a year. From terrified of a chair to watching fireworks…she has come a very long way. Every day she surprises us with something new!
